On November 7, Maricopa County voters approved Proposition 302, which created a funding mechanism for AZSTA. Under Proposition 302, AZSTA is responsible for distributing tax money to the Arizona Tourism Office to promote tourism in Maricopa County. This committee works with Arizona tourism officials, local Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs), and economic development and West Valley chamber of commerce officials to promote tourism and organize additional events at the State Farm Stadium. The AZSTA also generates tourism directly by leading tenders to attract major sporting events to the State Farm Stadium and by helping to fund the construction and renovation of the Cactus League baseball stadium.
The AZSTA board of directors is made up of nine citizens of Maricopa County who volunteer their time without receiving any compensation or travel expenses.
